After reading "The Laced Chameleon" it was obvious the novel's name very accurately described the main character, Francesca. From the first chapter to the last, Francesca demonstrated an extroidinary ability to adapt to whatever situation she found herself in with dignity and the strong will to survive.

I read widely in the mystery genre and less so historical fiction because too often the second assumes a previous knowledge of history - and my history background's not that good. The Laced Chameleon combines both in a vivid story that requires familiarity with neither the history genre nor historical fiction, comes steeped in New Orleans history and culture, and presents well-done characters and an intriguing premise.

Great book. I highly recommend it.
